The Foundation

What is a Mantra?

"Mantra is the sound form of pure consciousness."

From manas — mind — and tra — to protect, to liberate. Not a word to be spoken, but a vibration to be received.

In Vedic tradition, a mantra is not composed — it is heard. The ancient rishis, seated in stillness, perceived these sound frequencies as the living fabric of existence itself. To contemplate a mantra is to align with a resonance that exists beyond thought — one that protects the mind by drawing it inward, toward presence.

At SKR Studio, every painting begins here — in silence, in intention, in the setting of a mantra. Before the first drop of paint meets the canvas, the frequency is already present. The paint moves. The mantra guides. The work is received, not created.

Inner Stillness

Mantra as a Portal to Inner Stillness

In our painting meditation sessions, we infuse mantras into every step — allowing vibration to become a portal for healing and transcendence. Mantras have a positive effect on the people and the surroundings. They invoke the presence and the protection of the Divine, they purify the body, the five senses, the mind. Their vibrations propagate peace all around.

When combined with sacred geometry, color, and focused intention, mantra becomes an embodied experience, not just a mental practice.

"When the mind is purified by mantra, the soul remembers who it is."

The Story Behind the Mantra

ŚRĪ VIṬṬHALA GIRIDHĀRĪ
PARABRAHMAṆE NAMAḤA

"Giridhari is not only the lifter of Govardhana, He is the uplifter of hearts, and He shelters all under His Love"

— Paramahamsa Śri Swami Vishwananda

This mantra was given by the fully realized Master Paramahamsa Vishwananda in April, 2020. We invite you to join us on a virtual journey through the Divine Names that comprise the mantra. We begin this fascinating adventure with the story of Giridhari's divine play. Giridhari is one of the names of Lord Sri Krishna, and it means "the one who lifts the mountain."

Giridhārī — The Lifter of the Mountain

Let us journey back over 5,000 years to the forested groves and sacred cow pastures of Vrindavan. There, in the loving care of Nanda and Yashoda, the young Krishna spent His childhood among cows, gopalas, and gopīs. Every year, the villagers performed a traditional ceremony to honor Indra, the god of rain, in hopes of receiving his blessings.

But one year, little Krishna challenged this ritual. He urged the villagers to direct their offerings not to Indra, but to Govardhana Hill — the very land that sustained them. Moved by His wisdom, the cowherds offered their prayers and food to the hill.

Indra, furious at being overlooked, unleashed a devastating storm upon Vrindavan. Rain fell in torrents. Thunder shook the earth. The villagers cried out in fear. And then — the young Krishna, in an act of divine grace, lifted the entire Govardhana Hill on the little finger of His left hand, holding it aloft for seven days and seven nights as an umbrella, sheltering every soul beneath it.

Viṭṭhala — The One Who Stands on the Brick

Viṭṭhala is one of the most beloved forms of Lord Vishnu/Krishna, worshipped especially in the Varkari tradition of Maharashtra. The name Viṭṭhala is said to derive from "Viṭ" (brick) and "Thala" (standing), meaning "the One who stands on a brick."

The legend tells of a devoted young man named Pundalik who was so absorbed in serving his aged parents that when Lord Vishnu Himself appeared at his door, Pundalik — not wishing to interrupt his service — threw a brick for the Lord to stand on while he finished. Moved by this supreme devotion, the Lord stood patiently on the brick, waiting.

And so Viṭṭhala is the God who waits — who stands with arms on hips, eyes filled with love and patience, waiting for us to turn toward Him. He is the Divine that does not demand, but simply remains — present, patient, and full of grace.

Parabrahman — The Ultimate Reality

Parabrahman is the highest concept in Vedantic philosophy — the Absolute, the Infinite, the Ultimate Reality — that which is beyond time, space, and form. It is Krishna as the All-pervading, All-knowing, and All-loving essence of the Universe.

The Essence of the Mantra

So when we chant:

"Śrī Viṭṭhala Giridhārī Parabrahmaṇe Namaḥa"

We are not just reciting names. We are reverently invoking the Divine, taking shelter and invoking the protection of the Supreme, bowing down to the One who is both personal and absolute.

Feel the Mantra. Paint with It. Live It.

Every sacred painting in our collection is infused with this mantra's vibration — a resonance that purifies the space, uplifts the mind, and invites the Divine into your daily life.

Color & Vibration

Art Inspired by Timeless Wisdom

These are not ordinary paintings. Each artwork we offer is created as a living meditation — a sacred process where color, form, and vibration merge in stillness. At the heart of every painting is a mantra, silently or audibly repeated during its creation.

The result is an artwork that holds more than beauty. It radiates.
